Phalloidin is a cyclic heptapeptide toxin derived from Amanita phalloides. It selectively binds to filamentous Actin F-actin with high affinity (Kd=20 nM), but does not bind to monomer Actin G-actin. It is usually used to label F-actin in tissue sections, cell cultures or cell-free systems, so as to conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis of F-actin. In addition, Phalloidin derivatives also bind to large and small fibers with similar affinity, whether muscle cells or non muscle cells from animals and plants, according to the stoichiometric ratio of each Actin subunit to a Phalloidin molecule.
